David Braced for Title-Deciding Euroformula Open Finale at Monza

Sri Lankan contender eyes rookie crown and overall title at the ‘Temple of Speed’

FIA Formula 3-bound Yevan David heads into the final round of the Euroformula Open season at Monza (October 17–19) firmly in the hunt for both the EFO overall title and the rookie crown, as the Sri Lankan driver looks to close out his impressive debut campaign in style.

The Motopark racer left the previous round in Barcelona with his second pole position of the year, two podium finishes, and a fifth place in the rain-affected final race — later confirmed after a rival’s penalty. That result keeps David just 28 points behind the series leader, only five points adrift of second overall, and with a healthy 27-point advantage at the top of the rookie standings.

“Overall, Barcelona was a very good weekend. We had pole, two second places and then a tricky Race 3 with the tyre change, but we still scored strong points and stayed consistent. Honestly, there wasn’t much more we could have extracted, and I was really happy with the performance.”

With 79 points still available in Monza — 25 for each of the three races, plus one point apiece for fastest laps and pole position — the championship remains wide open with four drivers in contention for the title. Adding further intrigue, each driver’s three lowest-scoring results will be dropped from the final tally, potentially shuffling the order right to the last lap of the season.

“Monza is one of a kind. With the low-downforce setup and all the long straights, you can’t pull away there — you’re racing wheel to wheel from lights to flag. Risk evaluation will be absolutely crucial. The championship is in mind, but the focus is on executing the best weekend possible.” Yevan David

Monza, the legendary 5.8km ‘Temple of Speed,’ is expected to produce a dramatic showdown. Its low-downforce setups, long straights, and heavy braking zones guarantee close racing, with slipstreaming battles often going right down to the wire.

“Honestly, I.m really looking forward to it. I can't believe it's the end of the season, but all eyes on what we can do. Just gonna execute the maximum, you know, obviously, we want to get the best result possible, but I'm going to be focusing on myself as usual.” Yevan David

While David has already secured his graduation to FIA Formula 3 for 2026 and started an intensive testing programme, his attention remains locked on maximising his final Euroformula outing.

“I’ve been testing for Formula 3 already and I will have some more days after Monza. It’s  going very well and I'm super excited for next year, but honestly, I’m really looking forward to enjoying one last EFO event in Monza. The slip streaming will create for some great racing, so I’m  very excited.” Yevan David

The Euroformula Open finale begins with practice on Friday, followed by qualifying, Race 1 and Race 2 on Saturday, before the final race on Sunday all of which will decide both the overall and rookie championships for 2025.

Yevan David’s 2025 Euroformula Open campaign is supported by Merc Stop, Alcom, Dayholi, and the Ceylon Motor Sports Club (CMSC). He is contesting his first full season in the ultra-competitive single-seater championship, which features identical Dallara 324 chassis powered by TOM’S engines.
