David Targets Consistency in Barcelona as Euroformula Open Title Fight Heats Up

Sri Lankan contender looks to convert Red Bull Ring pace into points in Spain

Yevan David resumes his rookie Euroformula Open campaign this weekend at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya (September 19–21), determined to build on a hard-fought Austrian outing and keep his title challenge alive.

The Motopark driver left the Red Bull Ring with his fifth win of the season but also endured mixed fortunes, including a first-lap incident in Race 1 and a puncture in Race 3 that cost valuable points. Despite the setbacks, David sits third in the overall championship standings, 31 points behind leader Tymek Kucharczyk, with six races still to run across the final two rounds.

“It was a tough end to Austria with the puncture, but we showed our speed and still came away with a win,” David reflected. “That’s the important thing — even when things don’t go to plan, we’re still capable of fighting at the front. Barcelona is the next chance to show that again.”

The 4.675km Barcelona circuit is one of the most demanding tracks on the calendar, combining long straights, high-speed corners, and a technical final sector. With overtaking possible into Turn 1 and down the long back straight, the track places an emphasis on tyre management and precision — key factors for David as he takes on the penultimate round of the season.

“I’ve never raced at Barcelona, but I’ve done a few test days there,” said David. “It’s a very well-known circuit, with long, high-speed corners that really suit this car’s downforce. The long straights also make overtaking possible, so there will be plenty of chances to capitalise and get more points.”

David’s rookie year has already delivered five victories, ten podiums, and confirmation of his 2026 FIA Formula 3 graduation, but the focus remains firmly on Euroformula Open, where rivals Kucharczyk, team-mate Michael Shin, and Jose Garfias are all within striking distance.

“We know the car is strong and the team is working hard. The aim is to be consistent, stay in the fight, and make sure we maximise every opportunity. There are six races to go, and anything can happen in this championship.”

The Barcelona round begins with practice on Friday, followed by qualifying and Race 1 on Saturday, with two further races on Sunday.

Yevan David’s 2025 Euroformula Open campaign is supported by Merc Stop, Alcom, Dayholi, and the Ceylon Motor Sports Club (CMSC). He is contesting his first full season in the ultra-competitive single-seater championship, which features identical Dallara 324 chassis powered by TOM’S engines.
